The recent issue of the Security Index journal (international edition) came out on May 27, 2008. This season the journal focuses on the European direction of Russian foreign and economic policy. The range of problems to be tackled varies from peacekeeping cooperation, common space on external security and future of the CFE Treaty to conquering of Central and Eastern European nuclear markets and prospects for the Russian concept of floating reactors.
The interviews with Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Yakovenko dwell on the participation of Russian civil society in the foreign policy process, as well as on different aspects of relationship with Western and Eastern European partners.
And obviously, the central topic for the last six months has been the Kosovo self-proclaimed independence recognized by over 40 states now. Two leading experts – Sergey Markedonov and Sergey Romanenko – meet in harsh polemics about the impact of the Kosovo issue on the future of the European continent.
